Furniture Materials & Product Care Guide

All Sun Republic pieces are hand-crafted to the highest standards from sustainably sourced new and recycled materials.
Natural variations exist in wood, including knots, cracks, colour, and grain. These are unique to every tree and piece of timber, and therefore furniture.
Although best efforts have been undertaken to dry and acclimatise our furniture, it is a natural product and therefore susceptible to fluctuating temperatures and pressures. Some timbers such as teak and elm may change colour, split, crack or bow due to humidity levels and changes in air temperature, this should be expected and is not considered a fault or flaw and will not compromise the structural integrity of your furniture.
Our hand-crafted furniture pieces are just that, meaning they are hand-crafted individually and slowly made entirely by hand, and as such will inherit and have hand-made characteristics and marks of each artisan.
These slight imperfections should be expected as are apart of the hand-made process and add to the uniqueness of each piece. These imperfections are not considered faults or flaws and will not compromise the structural integrity of your furniture, but serve to make each and every piece unique, individual and add to its characteristics and charm.
Your American Oak furniture is finished with 2 coats of Osmo Poly X Raw, a pigmented hard wax oil. This finish gives the furniture its desired natural colour and has the advantage that stains do not penetrate the wood as easily. This is no foolproof guarantee against stains. In case of a spill, remove it immediately.
Your Teak wood products feature either a fine sanded finish or is finished with a matt clear coat. Products finished with matt clear should not require further treatment in the short-term future. If necessary, our fine-sanded finish products can be refinished with Golden Care Teak Shield which is available on our website. This product helps to protect the wood from staining. This finish has the advantage that stains do not penetrate the wood as easily. This is no fool proof guarantee against stains. In case of a spill, remove it immediately.

Outdoor Teak products are hand-crafted from high-grade solid Teak wood to withstand the harsh Australian elements. High-grade Teak wood contains a high-oil content which provides a natural lubricant to assist in the prevention of cracking and splitting. Your Outdoor Teak wood products feature a fine sanded, raw finish. If necessary, our fine-sand finish products can be refinished with Golden Care Teak Protector which is available on our website. This product helps to protect the wood and assists in maintaining an “as new” finish.
Teak Cleaner is a cleaner and brightener in one. This product cleans and restores discoloured, dirty, dark grey and/or green Teak.
Teak Protector maintains the original, honey brown colour of Teak for a very long time.
Teak Shield makes Teak repellent to water and moisture. It also helps to prevent stains caused by food and drinks.
For regular dusting, use a dry cloth. For cleaning or in case of a spill, use a damp cloth and natural soap and wipe up immediately. Wipe in the direction of the grain. Do not use soap containing detergent or other chemicals. Dry with a soft, clean cloth to prevent spotting. We always recommend protecting surfaces with coasters, mouse-pads, or placemats as extreme and repetitive daily use or heat can damage the finish. Always move objects such as flowerpots, vases etc from time to time, and ensure any excess water or dampness is wiped dry immediately to prevent marking the surface.
 We advise the following:
● Dust regularly using a soft dry cloth.
● For a more thorough cleaning, use mild soap and warm water. Rinse with clean water and wipe dry.
● Do not use steel wool, sandpaper, mineral acid, bleach or chlorine cleaners on metal surfaces.
● Do not drag the furniture along the floor, as it might damage the protective coating, or leave permanent marks on the floor. Always lift the furniture when moving from place to place.
● Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, heating/cooling vents or fireplaces should be avoided. These may damage or discolour the wood/finish and may promote cracking/bowing.

Stone products, like any other, demand regular care to maintain their pristine condition.

Terrazzo Resin is a composite material made from a mixture of resin (often polyester or acrylic), powdered stone (like marble or quartz), and various pigments. This combination results in a durable and versatile material. Terrazzo Resin offers advantages in terms of weight, versatility in design, aesthetic appeal, durability, and ease of maintenance when compared to concrete. These factors make it a preferred choice for various applications, particularly where a combination of style and practicality is desired.

Follow these instructions for minimal yet effective care:
After each use, it is essential to wipe or rinse the surface with a clean cloth and water or soapy water, followed by drying.

To prevent the build-up of mineral or soap scum on stone baths or basin surface, to preserve its appearance and prevent potential discoloration.

Use a soft, damp cloth to remove dust or dry dirt.

Address more stubborn stains by using a clean cloth and a mild abrasive cream cleanser such as Jif. Be diligent in removing all residue by thoroughly rinsing the surface. Wipe the entire surface completely dry afterward. If the issue persists, repeat these steps, applying more pressure if necessary.

Refrain from using razor blades or any sharp objects that may scratch the surface.
Avoid the use of harsh chemicals, such as solvents, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, paint thinner, chloride solvents, and strong acid-based products, as they can cause permanent damage to the finish.

Steer clear of bath products containing natural or artificial dyes. Test new products in an inconspicuous area before use. We do not recommend using bath bombs or any type of salts in your bathtub.

Empty the bathwater after each use and avoid leaving the bath full, as this can lead to a build-up on the surface. Rinse and dry with a towel after every use.
Improper use may damage the bath and void the warranty.

To ensure a lasting, high-quality product, our iron pieces are powder coated and cushions are filled with high-density foam. The covers are removable and machine-washable. To help protect the fabric over time, we recommend keeping cushions covered when not in use. Seamless, white rubber feet have also been added for total protection.

All our pieces are hand made, slow made. Measurements and finishes may differ slightly to photos due to its materials and hand crafted nature. We love that each piece is unique and we hope you do too.

Gently clean the powder coated surfaces of the furniture with a soft cloth or brush, and a warm water solution of mild soap. Avoid abrasive materials or cleaning agents to avoid damaging the powder coat. For removing surface water, use a microfibre cloth or sponge and then dry with a cloth to prevent water spots.

Outdoor furniture cushions are made from specific materials to ensure that they can cope with environmental factors like rain, sun and dust. Like anything there are a variety of options and different fabrics offering different advantages. We choose to use Sunbrella. Sunbrella - A high performance outdoor fabric used extensively worldwide in the outdoor furniture and marine industries as well as for awnings and umbrellas. Sunbrella is what is known as a "solution dyed" material.
One of the best ways to keep any outdoor fabric looking good is to address any spills as soon as they occur and keep the surfaces clear of dirt and grime. This will stop it being embedded in the fabric and restrict mildew growth as it requires dirt to grow on. This is required of anything left outdoors. There are methods of deeper cleaning, removing stains and maintaining your cushions which we have outlined below
All Sunbrella® fabrics are engineered with the highest levels of design and performance. When cleaning Sunbrella cushions we highly recommend keeping the cushion slips on the cushion, do not remove the fill or the foam. This makes it far easier to clean and helps maintain the integrity of the cushion, the cover and the zips. You may find that small amounts of dirt, dust or even some spills will require no more than a brush or a hose off if you get to them early enough. But for easy maintenance of your Sunbrella fabric that may require a little more attention than a just a brush or a hose:
1. Brush off loose dirt.
2. Spray on a cleaning solution of water and mild soap.
3. Use a soft bristle brush to clean from one side to another, not in circles.
4. Allow the cleaning solution to soak into the fabric.
5. Rinse thoroughly until all soap residue is removed. A hose is recommended.
6. Air dry.
Sunbrella fabrics do not promote mildew growth, however if mildew has formed on dirt or other foreign substances it can be easily cleaned.
To remove mould or mildew: ·
Prepare a solution of 1 cup of bleach and a quarter of a cup of mild soap per 4 litres of water.
Spray on the entire area and allow to soak into the fabric for 15 minutes.
Clean the entire surface area with a sponge, clean towel or very soft bristle brush.
Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue. A hose may be used.
Air dry.
For severe mould/mildew growth, bleach quantities may be increased. It is best to clean the entire surface area of the fabric to avoid water rings.
