Initial Care: Preparing Your New Furniture

Our furniture is handcrafted and carefully transported to you. A quick cleaning upon arrival ensures your piece is refreshed and ready for use.

Wipe gently with a soft, dry microfiber cloth to remove transit dust.

Everyday Cleaning & Maintenance

General Care:

  • Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
  • For spills, use a damp microfiber cloth with mild soap; dry immediately.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or bleach.

Protective Measures:

  • Use coasters, placemats, and trivets to prevent stains and heat damage.
  • Minimize exposure to direct sunlight and extreme temperatures to preserve finishes and materials.

Caring for Specific Materials

American Oak

  • Finished with Osmo PolyX Raw for a natural look and stain resistance.
  • Clean spills promptly to prevent staining.

Your American Oak furniture is finished with two coats of Osmo PolyX Raw, a pigmented hard wax oil that enhances its natural beauty while offering increased stain resistance. However, this is not a foolproof guarantee—spills should always be wiped away immediately.

Cleaning & Everyday Care:

  • Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Wipe spills promptly with a damp microfiber cloth and mild soap; dry thoroughly.
  • Always wipe in the direction of the grain.
  • Avoid detergents, harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or bleach.
  • Use coasters, placemats, and trivets to prevent stains and heat damage—especially on dining tables.
  • Always place trays or protective pads under vases, plants, and flowerpots, ensuring any excess water is wiped dry immediately.
  • Minimize exposure to direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Refreshing & Maintenance:

To maintain and restore your American Oak furniture:

  • Refresh every 12–18 months (or 6–12 months for high-use items like dining tables).
  • Use Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner to gently clean and rejuvenate the wood’s natural character. (Note: This is not a stain-proof solution.)
  • If needed, lightly sand with 400-grit sandpaper before applying 1–2 coats of Osmo PolyX Raw for added protection.

For deeper restoration, sand lightly to remove discoloration or light stains before reapplying Osmo PolyX Raw.

Teak Care & Maintenance

At Sun Republic, our high-quality teak furniture is designed to stand the test of time. With regular care, its natural beauty will last for years.

Indoor Teak

Our indoor teak furniture features either a fine-sanded finish or an Osmo matt clear coat. While the Osmo finish offers short-term protection, regular maintenance is essential—especially for high-use pieces like dining tables.

Cleaning & Everyday Care:

  • Minimize exposure to direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Wipe spills immediately with a damp microfiber cloth and mild soap; dry thoroughly.
  • Always wipe in the direction of the grain.
  • Avoid detergents, abrasive cleaners, or harsh chemicals.
  • Use coasters, placemats, and trivets to protect surfaces from heat, moisture, and stains.
  • Always place trays or protective pads under vases, plants, and flowerpots, ensuring any excess water is wiped dry immediately.
  • Minimize exposure to direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Refreshing & Maintenance:

To maintain and restore your teak furniture:

  • Refresh every 12–18 months (or 6–12 months for dining tables).
  • Use Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner to gently clean and rejuvenate the wood. (Note: This is not a stain-proof solution.)
  • Lightly sand with 400-grit sandpaper before applying 1–2 coats of Osmo PolyX Raw for added protection.
  • Fine-sanded teak pieces can be refinished with Golden Care Teak Shield to enhance stain resistance.

Outdoor Teak

Our outdoor teak furniture is handcrafted from high-grade solid teak, known for its natural resistance to the elements. The high oil content in teak acts as a natural lubricant, helping to prevent cracking and splitting. Outdoor teak features a fine-sanded, raw finish that gracefully ages into a silver-grey patina over time.

Cleaning & Everyday Care:

  • Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Wipe spills immediately with a damp microfiber cloth and mild soap; dry thoroughly.
  • Always wipe in the direction of the grain.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals, detergents, abrasive cleaners, or bleach.
  • Use coasters, placemats, and trivets to protect surfaces from stains and heat.
  • Always use trays or protective pads under vases, plants, and flowerpots to prevent water damage.

Refreshing & Maintenance:

To maintain the beauty of your outdoor teak furniture:

  • Golden Care Teak Cleaner removes dirt, mold, and mildew while restoring teak’s original honey tone.
  • Golden Care Teak Protector helps maintain teak’s warm, natural brown color.
  • Golden Care Teak Shield creates an invisible protective layer that prevents food stains, moisture absorption, and dirt buildup while preserving teak’s silver-grey patina.

For best results, use a Teak Cleaner before applying Teak Shield or Teak Protector.
